Животноводство (1992): скота — 55 тыс., свиней — 9,5 тыс., овец — 9 тыс., птицы — 310 тыс. Лесное хозяйство: белая сосна, дуб, берёза. Минералы: строительный песок и гравий. Рыболовство (1992): на 11,5 млн. долл. История. Первыми исследователями, побывавшими в этих местах, были англичанин Мартин Принг [Pring, Martin] (1603) и француз Шамплен [Champlain] (1605). Первым поселением был Литтл-Харбор [Little Harbor], неподалёку от г. Рай [Rye] (1623). Вскоре капитан Джон Мейсон [Mason, John] основал Портсмут [Portsmouth], а колония получила название Нью-Гемпшир. Нападения индейцев в 1759 были отбиты рейнджерами Роберта Роджерса [Robert Rogers’ Rangers]. Ещё до начала Войны за независимость ньюгемпширцы захватили английский форт в Портсмуте (1774) и изгнали оттуда представителей королевской власти. Три полка ньюгемпширцев входили в состав американской армии, и десятки каперских судов (т.е. получивших разрешение от государства на захват и уничтожение неприятельских кораблей) наносили удары по британскому флоту. Nat’l Forest]; ущелье Крофорд [Crawford]; Франкония [Franconia], получившая известность благодаря «лицу горного старца» [‘Old Man of the Mountain’], описанному Готорном [*Hawthorne] как «великое каменное лицо» [Great Stone Face] и ставшему официальной эмблемой штата; к числу достопримечательностей относятся тж. живописное ущелье Флум [Flume], канатная дорога на гору Каннон [Cannon Mt.], деревня шейкеров [Shaker Village] в Кентербери, г. Портсмут [Portsmouth], дом, в котором родился Дэниел Вебстер [Daniel Webster’s birthplace], и др. Знаменитые ньюгемпширцы: Крам, Ральф [Cram, Ralph Adams], архитектор; Эдди, Мэри [Eddy, Mary Baker], религиозная деятельница; Френч, Дэниел [French, Daniel Chester], скульптор; Фрост, Роберт [*Frost, Robert], поэт; Грили, Хорас [Greeley, Horace], журналист; Пирс, Франклин [Pierce, Franklin], 14-й президент США; Вебстер/Уэбстер, Дэниел [*Webster, Daniel], составитель знаменитого словаря.
